I sit in front of a computer for 80 percent of the work day so I rarely if ever get on the computer during my leisure; everything is done on the BB. I just realized my first conversation with guito was never posted so I will try to recreate it with similar sentiments.
Yesterday a fellow, but full breed guito sparked conversation with me about hip hop, I assume, the only topic he knew would be a hit with me that we could both vibe with. At first I thought, look at this white boy trying to pick a topic appealing to the black girl, how stereotypical, but as the conversation continued I realized guito really gave two shits what other people thought and was genuinely trying to include me into his story because he felt I could understand. I must admit, a month in I wasn't quite sure where his head was at. I blame my guito dad and spike lee films, for assuming the worse in this no nonsense Italian kid.
But none the less a co workers going away party turned into a great opportunity to talk to a real kid. Not only did I learn about hip hop from the pure white perspective - hidding it, when hip hop became pop (big pimpin not eminem like my black outsider counterparts and I thought), when white people felt comfortable to say they were fans (eminem), recognition that this new age southern rap aint nothing- but I learned about someone, something, and some culture that I never would have because of my preconseptions and a misread of my guito. Guito just reaffirmed the importance of house rule number six.
